Intervir therapeutic products inhibit viral host interactions that prevent virus budding and egress. The target virus-host interaction is between viral L-domain motifs and host WW-domains that are present in E3 ubiquitin ligases such as Nedd4. The virus utilizes host Nedd4 to facilitate budding from the host cell. Disruption of this virus-host interaction reduces virus release and dissemination.
Intervir scientists have discovered highly potent inhibitors of the L-domain/Nedd4 interaction. These inhibitors block viral L-domain interactions with host Nedd4, and block budding and dissemination of live Ebola, Marburg and Lassa viruses. These inhibitors are covered in broad composition of matter patents.
